Degenerative disc disease (DDD) is a common spine condition where the discs between the vertebrae lose flexibility over time, sometimes leading to stiffness, pain, or nerve-related symptoms. Although the name sounds severe, many people manage DDD successfully with the right care.
At CleanSpine, Dr. Tyler Bigenho takes time to listen, evaluate the whole spine, and explain care options clearly and without pressure.
Watch: Chiropractic Care for Veteran with Degenerative Disc Disease
In the video below, you’ll see Dr. Tyler Bigenho working with a veteran who has DDD. This real-life case shows his approach to caring for a veteran to help improve movement and comfort, even when disc degeneration is present. His focus is on restoring motion, reducing tension, and supporting the spine without aggressive force.
WHAT IS DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE?
Degenerative disc disease are changes in the spinal discs over time. Discs act as cushions between the bones of the spine. As we age, discs lose hydration and flexibility, which may reduce their ability to absorb stress.
This does not mean your spine is “crumbling” or beyond help. Many people with DDD live active, comfortable lives with the right care and movement support.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE
- Neck or low back pain
- Stiffness after sitting or waking up
- Pain that worsens with certain movements
- Reduced range of motion
- Occasional flare-ups followed by calmer periods
Symptoms vary from person to person. Some people have disc changes on imaging with very little pain, while others feel discomfort during daily activities.
why disc degeneration can cause pain
Pain isn’t just about disc height. Degeneration disc disease may affect:
- How your joints move
- How surrounding muscles stabilize the spine
- How pressure is distributed during movement
When the spine isn’t moving well, nearby muscles and joints may work harder, leading to tension, stiffness, or irritation.

HOW CHIROPRACTIC CARE CAN HELP DEGENERATIVE DISC DISEASE
Chiropractic care does not regenerate discs, and we are always honest about that. What chiropractic can do is help improve how your spine functions around those disc changes.
